Privacy Policy

Waymark is a travel-tracking app for iOS. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and what control you have over it.

Short version

Waymark stores travel records on your device. Automatic tracking stores inferred country codes, not a raw GPS trail. Optional sync uses your own private iCloud container.

What data Waymark collects

1. Country-level location

When automatic location capture is enabled, Waymark uses your device's location to determine which country you're in once in the morning and once in the evening. Only the inferred country code (e.g. "US", "DE") is stored for travel history. Raw GPS coordinates are not saved to disk and are not transmitted to a developer-operated server.

2. Travel records you create manually

If you add a log manually, Waymark stores the date, country code, and any optional note you write. This lives on your device unless you enable iCloud sync.

3. Goals

Goal settings (country, date range, target day count) are stored locally so the app can calculate progress and pacing.

4. Diagnostic data

Waymark may record local diagnostic events (capture timestamps, error codes) for in-app troubleshooting. This stays on your device. It is not used for advertising, or profiling.

How your travel data is stored

On your device. Travel records, goals, and related app data are stored locally using Apple platform storage. The core Waymark workflow does not depend on a developer-operated backend.

iCloud sync is optional. If you enable sync, your travel records and goals are synced across your devices using a private CloudKit container associated with your Apple ID. The developer does not use that as a way to inspect or monetize your travel history.

What this means in practice

If you never enable sync, your data stays local to the device. If you do enable sync, the storage path is Apple's iCloud service under your account, not a Waymark server.

Data sharing

Waymark does not:

  • sell your data
  • share your data with advertising networks
  • build cross-app tracking profiles
  • send travel records to developer-operated servers as part of the normal product flow

Deleting your iCloud data

If iCloud sync was enabled, you can remove the app's data through iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

Children's privacy

Waymark is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children.
